Have you considered a custom/bespoke aluminium extrusion? Are you familiar with these processes? If not, read on!
What is Custom Bespoke Aluminium Extrusion?
Extruded aluminium is a manufacturing process that involves forcing aluminium, at high pressure, through a die that has been designed to create a desired cross-section.
There are two main benefits to this process, including:
- The ability to create complex cross-sections
- It’s possible to create parts that are metres in length
HOW IT WORKS
What is the Custom/Bespoke Aluminium Extrusion Process?
Here are some of the basic steps that take place during the custom/bespoke aluminium process:
1. Extrusion Log
It all starts with an extrusion log, which is an alloy cylinder up to 72 inches long. This is the raw material for the extrusion process.
2. Preheating
The next step is that the logs are preheated by loading them into the furnace, and then heating them to 500 ̊ C. This temperature is hot enough to soften the aluminium, but not cause it to lose its shape.
3. Extrusion Process
Now, we’re ready for the extrusion process. The extrusion log is loaded into an extruder machine, where a hydraulic ram forces the log through a shaped opening in a die.
4. Quenching
This is the step where the aluminium log is immediately cooled in water. The company has control over the precise rate of cooling.
5. Stretching/Cutting/Aging
Next, the extrusions are stretched to correct any shape deformities. After this, they’re cut to a specific determined length and aged in an oven. This is the point where the extrusion reaches the desired hardness.
6. Aluminium Surface Finishing
This is the final step and involves running the extruded pieces through a finishing machine. The pieces are deburred, to soften any sharp edges and ensure the surface is ready for coating.
Our Capabilities
Custom/Bespoke Aluminium Extrusion
Creating custom/bespoke aluminium extrusion requires stringent controls to ensure the production of high-quality aluminium extrusions. Aluminium billets are forced through customised die made of steel, and then both are heated to 500˚ C, to allow the semi-molten aluminium to pass through the die and take its correct shape.
We offer a wide range of extrusion presses, which can produce extruded aluminium profiles from 5-inch to 15-inch billet size diameters. We can accommodate almost every type of profile you may require, in soft alloys from 1mm wall thickness upwards, with a minimum chargeable weight of 150g / linear metre to 25 kills per linear metre.
Our Quality & Standards for Aluminium Extrusion
All of our extrusion and tolerances are according to EN 755-9 and EN 12020-2. Our suppliers and subcontractors are carefully chosen based on their capacities to integrate their manufacturing and surface finish processes under one roof. That means great cost competitiveness and stronger quality control.
We focus on ensuring that our customers receive the best quality possible. GSM Aluminium is ISO 900 accredited. You can count on us to continuously monitor our internal quality control systems, and manufacturing processes, and you will be completely satisfied.
In addition, our own factories and our suppliers are all ISO 9001 and 14001 registered.
Bespoke aluminium profiles
Bespoke aluminium profiles refer to custom-made aluminium shapes or sections that are designed and manufactured according to specific requirements and specifications. These profiles are tailored to meet unique needs and can be used in various applications, such as construction, manufacturing, and industrial projects.
These custom aluminium profiles can serve a wide range of purposes, from structural components in buildings to parts for machinery and equipment. The choice of aluminium as a material offers benefits like lightweight, corrosion resistance, and strength, making it a popular option for various applications.
